MakeUp – At the 11th Hour!
Many feminists claimed that by putting on makeup , women are submitting to the norms of a patriarchal society that tries to judge them for their looks, not their brain. Some women however, didn’t accept this idea as they liked wearing makeup as a form of expression.
The stand of feminists remains actively divided when it comes to wearing makeup. Many feminists claim that women are being sold the idea that they’re imperfect and need to be improved, which is only possible if they use such “beauty products”.
Feminism and Femininity can blossom together. A woman wearing makeup can be a feminist. Makeup although started as a patriarchal norm which was a compulsion for women to follow to meet the standards of an ideal women, but with time, the way makeup is perceived should be changed.
Feminism calls for equality of the sexes. The makeup belongs to everyone who wants to apply it, irrespective of their gender. Sexual preferences don’t decide whether one wants to apply makeup or not. A man or a women, a homosexual or a heterosexual, any person can want to apply makeup irrespective of their gender and sexual preferences.
Rather than looking at makeup as a form of oppression or as something exclusively meant for women, let’s label it as a choice. A choice open to anyone who wants to accept it!
